Kia Ora I’m Max Urquhart.

  • Sakaria Paea

A little about myself:

I started with Te Atatu Roosters in 2017 playing in the Premiers and Premiers Reserves. After growing up playing Rugby Union my whole life with Te Atatu Rugby Club/ Waitakere City Rugby Union Club, I made the move to League and fell in love with the game and the club.

In the 6 Years I’ve been with the club, I appeared in two Minor Premier Teams Captaining the reserves in one. Finished top of the table in my last year, unfortunately it was called off due to Covid. I was also the Te Atatu Roosters Women’s Trainer which won back-to-back Championship Titles in 2018/2019.

In 2022 as a Junior Development Team, we took part in Whanau Days, we assisted teams that asked for help and supported the teams that needed encouragement on the side-line. We managed to get our curriculum into the schools coaching and teaching the game to:

  • Flanshaw Road Primary
  • Te Atatu Intermediate
  • Rangeview Intermediate both with Boys and Girls teams.

We supported our Te Atatu Roosters Under 15’s boys as they trialled for Region of Origin and the Shaun Johnson Shield Teams with many of them getting in.

Our Goals for 2023

  • Getting Kids from our community involved in Rugby League, creating an enjoyable and fun atmosphere within our Junior Teams.
  • Have people in our club be role models for our juniors.
  • Promote League through Schools where we teach league in sessions and take the kids to Interschool Field Days.
  • Ensure that the kids from our community have the chance of further developing their skills and have the pathway for them to play higher honours ie: Fox Premiership/ NRL or international if that is what they pursue for their future.
  • To engage with the whole community and make Te Atatu League a fun safe environment for the whole Whanau.
